A practical, standard Gir wildlife itinerary designed around two Gir Jungle Safaris, with Devalia Safari Park and local sightseeing. Ideal for families, couples, wildlife lovers, photographers and first-time visitors to Gir.
Gir Jungle Safari is operated through the Gujarat Forest Department’s official permit system, and each e-permit allows up to 6 adults plus one child aged 3–12.
Important: Gir Jungle Safari is closed every year from 16 June to 15 October. Safari timings also change seasonally.
Arrive at Sasan Gir, the main base for exploring Gir National Park. Sasan Gir can be reached by road from Junagadh, Veraval, Rajkot and other Gujarat destinations. The nearest railway connections include Sasan and Veraval / Junagadh depending on your travel route.
Afternoon
Evening – optional activities, depending on the property
Dinner & overnight: Traditional Gujarati dinner at the hotel.
Early morning – Gir Jungle Safari: Wake up early and have tea / coffee before proceeding to the Gir Jungle Safari reception centre. The exact reporting and safari time depends on the date and seasonal schedule; the Forest Department lists morning and afternoon safari windows, with timings changing between winter and summer.
Board your authorised safari vehicle with a registered guide. During the approximately three-hour forest experience, explore the designated safari route and look for:
Gir’s safari tracks pass through different forest habitats, providing opportunities to observe the area’s wildlife and landscape.
Late morning: Return to the resort after the safari for breakfast, freshening up and relaxing. Swimming pool / leisure time, if available.
Afternoon: Lunch at the resort followed by free time.
Evening – optional
Note: Lion sightings are not guaranteed. Wildlife moves freely through the forest, so sightings depend on natural animal movement, weather, season and luck.
Morning – Devalia Safari Park: After breakfast, proceed to the Gir Interpretation Zone, Devalia, popularly known as Devalia Safari Park. Devalia is a 412-hectare interpretation zone designed to provide visitors with a concentrated experience of Gir’s ecosystem. It contains representative wildlife and habitats and offers good opportunities to observe Asiatic lions and other animals.
Wildlife you may see
Devalia is particularly useful for visitors who want another opportunity to observe Gir’s wildlife in a shorter, more controlled safari experience.
Afternoon: Return to the hotel / resort for lunch, rest and relaxation.
Optional local sightseeing, depending on time and interest
Evening: Leisure time at the resort. A traditional Gujarati dinner can also be arranged.
Early morning – second Gir Jungle Safari: For a proper wildlife holiday, the second Gir Jungle Safari is highly recommended. The morning safari gives you another opportunity to explore a different route / zone according to the permit allocation.
Because wildlife movement is unpredictable, two separate safaris give you more opportunities to experience Asiatic lions, leopards, deer, crocodiles, birds, forest landscapes and other native wildlife. The Forest Department assigns designated routes and requires visitors to follow the prescribed route and time limits.
After safari: Return to the resort for breakfast, freshening up and check-out.
Departure: Transfer to your onward destination: Sasan Gir → Junagadh / Rajkot / Ahmedabad / Somnath / Diu / Veraval.
