The Deccan Odyssey is a luxury train that takes in the western coast and heritage heart of India. Its carriages have been designed with the feel of a palace on rails — with two restaurants, a bar, a lounge, a spa and an attached bathroom in every cabin.
Choose from two journeys: Maharashtra Splendour, a sweep through Maharashtra, the Konkan coast and Goa, and Jewels of the Deccan, a cultural journey from Mumbai through Ajanta & Ellora to Gujarat, Rajasthan and Agra.
Mumbai – Jaigad – Sindhudurg – Goa – Kolhapur – Pune – Nashik – Mumbai
A journey through the lesser-travelled western coast of India: the Konkan coastline, forts, beaches, Goa, temple towns, wine country and Maratha heritage.
Gather at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) for a traditional welcome, a briefing and a welcome drink before boarding the Deccan Odyssey.
Dinner onboard as the train heads down the Konkan coast.
Arrive on the Konkan coast for a visit to the 17th-century Jaigad Fort on the Arabian Sea cliffs and the beachside Ganpatipule Temple.
Enjoy a seafood-inspired lunch and return to the train.
Travel to Sindhudurg, where the island fort built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj stands in the sea, reached by a short boat ride. Time is available at Tarkarli beach for water sports or relaxation.
Arrive in Goa for Old Goa’s churches and convents, including the Basilica of Bom Jesus, and a drive through the Latin Quarter of Panjim (Fontainhas). Free time on the beach in the afternoon.
Visit the Mahalakshmi Temple, one of India’s ancient Shakti Peethas, and the New Palace Museum that preserves Kolhapur’s royal heritage. Kolhapur is also famous for its handmade leather sandals (Kolhapuri chappals) and spicy cuisine.
Visit the Shaniwar Wada palace-fortress of the Peshwas and the Aga Khan Palace. The evening is spent aboard as the train continues towards Nashik.
Arrive in Nashik, a sacred town on the Godavari River. Visit Trimbakeshwar Temple and the ghats, then enjoy a wine tasting at a Nashik vineyard in India’s wine country.
The train arrives back at Mumbai. After breakfast, disembark and the journey ends with onward arrangements.
Mumbai – Nashik – Aurangabad (Ellora & Ajanta) – Vadodara – Udaipur – Jaipur – Agra – Delhi
A heritage journey from the Deccan plateau’s rock-cut caves to Rajasthan’s palaces and the Taj Mahal, ending in the capital.
The journey begins at Mumbai with a welcome ceremony, briefing and a first dinner onboard.
Visit Nashik’s temples on the Godavari River and its wine estates, a short stop before the train continues towards Aurangabad.
Explore the UNESCO-listed Ellora Caves — Buddhist, Hindu and Jain rock-cut temples, including the monolithic Kailasa Temple. Visit the Bibi-ka-Maqbara, often called the “mini Taj”.
Visit the Ajanta Caves, famed for their Buddhist murals and sculpture dating back over two thousand years, before returning to the train.
Explore the Laxmi Vilas Palace, the Gaekwad family’s grand palace, and the Champaner-Pavagadh archaeological park or the city’s museums.
Enjoy the City Palace and Lake Pichola, with time for the bazaars and a sunset view over the lake.
Morning at Amber Fort in Jaipur, then continue to Agra for the Taj Mahal at the close of the day.
The train arrives in Delhi where the journey ends after breakfast.
The Deccan Odyssey offers two restaurants, a bar, a lounge and an onboard spa. Cabins range from Deluxe to the Presidential Suite, each with an en-suite bathroom and a personal attendant, and the interiors take inspiration from the royal courts of Maharashtra.
